Build it Yourself Muzzleloader Kit
« on: November 12, 2017, 07:21:55 AM »
Has anyone have any experience with the build it yourself muzzleloader kits?

My son turns 10 this month and I thought about getting him one for Christmas that we could build together.

Thanks

I built 4 or 5 of these in high school.  My grandpa had a gunsmithing shop and enjoyed muzzleloaders so we would build these and tinker with them.  I would carry 2 when I deer hunted with them.
The only two things you should mix good whiskey with is ice and questionable decisions.

I've never personally done one, but while they're cool and I'd think it was a cool project to build and shoot....

But I'd never use one for hunting. At least here, where muzzleloader season can often be a battle with rain and moisture keeping things dry, I'd take a modern inline design any day of the week for a number of reasons (better cap protection, removable breach, etc). I capped on a cow elk this year, and never got a chance to punch my tag before the season ran out, sucks.

I've got an Accura that I hunt with.
To be honest, I'm not sure how much this one will get shot until he gets bigger. I'm just thinking from the build time aspect with him on it.

He already helps me reload from time to time ;)
